Everything you want to know about Soup for Life!
Soup for Life is about sharing a bowl of soup with family, friends, school friends and colleagues and gorta is asking everyone to get involved and organise their very own Soup for Life event. Soup for Life takes place over National Soup Week, which has been running for four years and kicks off this year on the 1st March 2013.
So what’s so special about sharing soup? In Ireland during the great famine, soup fed more than one third of the population – it was critical in saving lives. During National Soup Week, we will be remembering the past, but also looking to the future. Right now, undernourishment affects 925 million people in the world (FAO). At gorta, we believe small actions can create the opportunities for big change.
It’s really easy to participate, just organise or attend a Soup for Life event and make a small contribution – even just €1 - to gorta. The event can be held in your kitchen, office, staffroom, school, your favourite park - it can be absolutely anywhere!
You can also spread the word among your friends, family, colleagues and encourage everyone in Ireland to SOUP IT UP!
You can visit any of the participating restaurants nationwide. Every bowl of soup bought in these restaurants, hotels, pubs and cafés over National Soup Week will result in a donation of €1 to gorta's work in overseas development.
If you can't host a Soup for Life event yourself this year, don’t worry, you can still get involved. Restaurants, cafés and pubs across Ireland are also becoming gorta soupporters and donating €1 per bowl of soup sold during National Soup Week. Why not make that lunch date matter?
The full list of participants and their locations are available on this website; just browse through and choose from among the best restaurants in Ireland!
